The existing timber staircase on this job had reached the end of its life and no longer met modern building regulations. Two J’s Metalwork were contracted to replace the staircase with an alternative steel structure meeting building regulations. Although timber staircases are cheaper and simpler to construct, they do not provide the longevity that an external steel staircase does. One of the main reasons our customers opt for steel is that once it has been galvanised or powder coated the steel would not need to be replaced in their lifetime.

The balustrade on this staircase was fabricated from a box section frame with mesh panel infills. The client requested mesh panels for hanging baskets and to grow climbing plants giving it a more personalised look.

The structure itself was fixed to the ground and the building using chemical resin anchors to provide a solid fix. This construction now also provides a perfect bin store area.

For our erectors this was a nice easy install compared to the more complex structures they are used to. When installing any steelwork, we provide our erectors with a detailed risk assessment and method statement tailored to the job in question.

The black powdercoating of the steelwork now gives a smart bold finish but most importantly a safe entrance and fire exit to the property.
