We manage a wide variety of projects at Two J’s Metalwork. As well as supporting local businesses, we also create robust structures for overseas clients upon request. Keep reading to understand how we seamlessly work on international projects.

Wind Tunnel Project Overview

Steel frameworks are commonly used for structures that will face harsh conditions, such as excessive wind and water-damage. This project required us to fabricate a support frame for a wind tunnel that was to be exported to the United States.

Our team was chosen for this project as we possess the specialist skills and experience needed to create resilient metal structures for wind tunnels and other coastal structures.

Our solution? An EXC 3 (Execution Class Level 3) steelwork frame that was made to the exact size and specifications provided by the client. Working to this standard meant that the structure met top welding requirements, passed tough inspections, and was manufactured by quality-assured professionals.

What is Structural Steelwork?

A unique quality of structural steelwork is that the hardy frames are built to meet exact project specifications. This means that even if you have a complex design on your hands, our team can use high-quality materials and design experience to create the perfect structure.

Structural steelwork can include builders’ beams and columns, architectural forms, staircases, platforms, or as in this case, unique frameworks. Structural frameworks are complete solutions that can be used for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

In this example, the steelwork solution was chosen as the precise designs and durable components are ideal for the intended location.

Issues that we Overcame

Although we have plenty of experience with this type of project, there are always complex factors to overcome.

When creating this wind tunnel structure, the size requirements meant that some adjustments to our standard manufacturing process had to be considered. The sizable frames were fabricated from large square hollow sections that had to be procured from a specialist supplier as our stockists did not have suitable materials available. However, this was not a problem for us as we regularly work with a wide selection of suppliers to bring paper-based requests to reality.

The large scale of this project also meant that we had to make some changes to our standard construction process.

To ensure we could work on every part of the frame, we had to turn it over using an overhead crane. Without using this extra piece of machinery, it would simply have not been possible to complete the project. However, we understand that not every project is the same which is why we have access to a wide range of tools and machines to ensure any design can be created without compromise.
